MUMBAI: Around 1,800 students appearing for the All India Bar Examination at two centres in the city received question papers over an hour late on Sunday. The students were given extra time to complete the paper.
“It was shocking that candidates who appeared in Mumbai for AIBE faced a miserable situation. Question papers were given late by 2hrs 15mins at Rajeshri Shahu Maharaj College (Vikroli centre) & 1hr late in DY Patil College (Nerul centre)...” said Sachin Pawar, president, Students' Law Council in a letter to the Bar Council of India.
He also said that candidates at Shahu College were given photocopies of the answersheets to write on. “Answer books are supposed to be sealed... The bar code was also not mentioned on these answer sheets...,” he said.
Vice-chairman of Bar Council of India, Satish Deshmukh, said that the exam was smoothly conducted for over 40,000 candidates across 76 centres. “There was a technical problem only at two centres in Mumbai and so the papers were distributed 45 minutes after the scheduled time. But extra time was given to all candidates,” said Deshmukh.
At D Y Patil College, 1,500 took the exam and at the Vikhroli centre 348 took the exam.
The students’ body complained that students couldn’t access online admit cards up to two days before the exam. “When students tried to reach BCI on phones and e-mail, grievances were unanswered, causing stress. Students were unsure about taking the exam,” said Pawar. They have appealed that the exam fee of Rs 3,560 be reduced. TNN
