Kannur University Syndicate approves annual budget

The annual budget of the Kannur University for 2019-20 has earmarked ₹11.58 crore for examination works, ₹3 crore for 37 vacancies of teachers, ₹83 lakh for sports development and ₹30.5 lakh for students’ union activities.

A press release said the budget approved by the Syndicate on December 22 envisages a revenue of ₹266.21 crore and an expenditure of ₹261.38 crore. The budget proposals included earmarking of ₹1.23 crore for research activities, ₹1.70 crore for scholarship for researchers, and ₹50 lakh for boards of studies for curriculum-syllabus revision. The Syndicate meeting also entrusted a sub committee to examine the feasibility of a printing and publishing wing. It also approved a proposal to start a differently abled-friendly section in the university central library. It sanctioned ₹10 lakh for the activities of the recently started Civil Service coaching academy on the university’s Thalassery campus. The university would levy from engineering colleges concerned the expenditure for conducting the exams postponed following a mix-up in distribution of question papers for B.Tech supplementary exam.

The press release also said the meeting complimented the exam wing for completing exam valuation works in record time. The meeting also decided to request the State to grant the amount needed for compensating the loss of pay for guest lecturers in colleges for the working days when they worked in valuation camps.

Women’s Wall

The Syndicate also called on all women employees and students and teachers of its academic departments including those in affiliated colleges to join the Wall of Women campaign on January 1. The Registrar was entrusted to give instructions in this regard.
