PUNE: Officials of the MahaMetro have decided to deploy traffic wardens round the clock at different spots on and near the Karve Road to assist the city traffic while the authority will be building the two-tier flyover on Karve Road.

As per information shared by MahaMetro officials, they are in touch with locals of the area and city traffic police to take a decision on diversion of traffic on Karve Road while the work of building the two-tier flyover will be in progress.

On Saturday, officials of MahaMetro held a meeting with DCP (Traffic) Tejaswi Satpute, Police Inspector (Traffic-Kothrud) Pratibha Joshi and various other officials to take a review of the situation, which will help them decide about the diversion that needs to be implemented on Karve Road for smooth traffic flow after MahaMetro starts the flyover work.

MahaMetro has already started placing signboards and is repairing the footpath on Karve Road.

"Traffic wardens will be present round the clock at Lokur Chowk, Ghodge Chowk and Bhate Chowk to regulate the traffic. We are in process of testing different diversion routes and plans and will soon decide the final plan before starting work of the flyover," said an official of MahaMetro.

The estimated cost of the flyover is around Rs 56 crore. Metro officials said that the two-tier flyover will be beneficial as compared to the single flyover to reduce traffic problem. The Nal Stop flyover will start at SNDT Chowk on Karve Road and will pass over Nal Stop Chowk landing a few metres ahead of Abhinav Chowk. The commuters will be able to cover the distance without stopping at the chowk. The flyover will be useful to commuters travelling towards Kothrud and to Deccan Gymkhana.
