Vadodara: Three persons living in Manjalpur were arrested late on Saturday night in connection with murder of a daughter-in-law of their family on December 18.
The arrests were made after the deceased woman’s kin registered the complaint at Manjalpur police station on Saturday afternoon. The woman Bharti Jagtap (29) died following an incident of domestic violence against her on December 17.

According to Jagtap’s family members, Bharti used to be allegedly harassed by her husband Prakash alias Bhau, mother-in-law Shoba alias Baby and sister-in-law Pushpa ever since her wedding in March. Bharti’s in-laws used to demand gold jewellery as dowry and harass her over doing domestic chores.

Neighbours told police that Bharti used to go through torture almost daily and many times subjected to physical harassment too.

Police sources said that there were also cases when the accused used to increase the volume of television while thrashing Bharti so that neighbours would not know about it.

On the night of December 17 too there was a heated verbal altercation and the trio beat up Bharti and smashed her head against the wall. At that time, Bharti did not experience anything unusual, but the next evening, she fainted while working in the house. Shobha and Pushpa took her to a private hospital in Fatehgunj where it was learnt that she had a blood clot in her brain due to previous night’s thrashing.

She succumbed during treatment. Later her final rites were performed and her parents approached police on Saturday after they recovered from the loss.

An FIR of murder, domestic violence, criminal intimidation and violation of Dowry Prohibition Act was registered.

On Sunday, all three accused were sent to judicial custody after they were produced before a local court.
