Almost a year after receiving the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) nod, the Padaharam bridge over the Pampa river, connecting Nedumudi and Thakazhi grama panchayats in Kuttanad, is set to materialise soon.

It will be built by the Public Works Department at a cost of ₹53.78 crore. The bridge with a total length of 441 metres will have 22 spans. Thomas Chandy, MLA, said on Saturday here that the construction of the bridge would begin soon. “It is a long pending demand of the people of Kuttanad. The project has received technical sanction. An amount of ₹2 crore has been sanctioned for acquiring land for the project. As the bridge will be constructed over the National Waterway, the navigation span will be constructed in 45 metre length and six metre height. Once completed, the bridge will make travel easy between Thakazhi and Nedumudi,” Mr. Chandy said.

Mr. Chandy added that the existing approach road on both sides of the river would be renovated as part of the project. The Seguro Foundations and Structures Pvt Ltd., which built the Mundakkal bridge across Pamba river at Kainakary has been entrusted with the construction of Padaharam bridge, he said.
