Contraband seized from Nabha jail employee

PATIALA: Kotwali police have arrested an employee of Punjab Ex-Servicemen Corporation (Pesco) posted at New District Jail in Nabha. In a separate case, the cops have booked an inmate of the same jail for trying to sneak in drugs.


The case against jail staffer Atma Singh was filed after the jail authorities seized a bundle of bidis, jarda and five grams of intoxicating material hidden in his turban. The search was carried out by assistant jail superintendent Harbans Singh in the presence of jail superintendent Ramandeep Singh. A case under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 has been registered against him.


Meanwhile, inmate Buta Singh was caught while trying to smuggle 48 tables of psychotropic drugs inside the jail. Buta is already facing 10-year of jail under the NDPS Act.
