A mechanic was assaulted by an armed gang on Lenin Street in Nellithope here on Friday.
The name of the victim was given as Ayappan alias Kumaresan, 26, of Chinnayapuram in Mudaliarpet. He has been admitted to the Puducherry Government General Hospital.
According to the police, Ayappan, working as a mechanic in a private two-wheeler showroom on the 100-feet road, was returning home after work on a motorcycle when an armed gang waylaid him in front of the Manimeghalai Government Girls Higher Secondary School and assaulted him with sickles. The gang later fled the scene.
A case has been registered.
