Children homes inspected in Mohali

MOHALI: A Mohali sessions judge, Vivek Puri, on Friday visited all children homes in the district and found poor and unhygienic living conditions there.
During his visit to Jyoti Sarup Kanya Asra Trust in Kharar; Universal Disabled Care Taker Society in Padiala, Guru Asra Trust in Mohali, Apne Foundation in Sector 77 of Mohali and Mata Gujri Sukh Niwas in Kharar, he interacted with the care takers of the homes and directed them to ensure that all provisions under Juvenile Justice Act were being followed. He also told them to provide basic facilities to all living in the homes.
Judge Monica Lamba said, "We found discrepancies pertaining to hygiene and cleanliness in kitchen, washrooms and some other parts of the living area. Directions regarding improvements have already been issued to the care takers. Rest, elderly persons living in the homes were satisfied."
She added that as per instructions from a Punjab and Haryana High Court committee, these inspections are to be carried by district and sessions judge, who will make sure that children are being protected and taken care of.
