Rajkot: Tired of repeated representations made to restore regular water supply to his area, a man from Sartanpar port of Talaja taluka in Bhavnagar district attempted self-immolation at Talaja taluka panchayat office on Saturday.

Police said Ramesh Mer (40) arrived at the office and was rescued by the cops in the nick of time when he poured kerosene over his body and was about to light a matchstick.

“When we caught him and brought him to the police station, he started saying, ‘It’s all over now. I won’t do it again.’ However, we arrested him after booking him under Sections 107, 116 (3) and 151 of the Indian Penal Code,” an official from Talaja police station said.

“Mer had made several representations to the Talaja taluka panchayat office, urging the administration to restore the regular water supply to Mer Fali locality of Sartanpar port. However, as the water supply was not restored in his area, Mer decided to attempt self-immolation,” a source from Talaja taluka panchayat office said.
