Two pedestrians killed in separate accidents days before Christmas

Two pedestrians are dead after being hit by cars in separate incidents with one death a suspected hit-run.

The driver who struck a man in Geelong South about 3:15am left before police arrived.

The man was found with life-threatening injuries in Yarra Street near the intersection of Verner Street.

The man is yet to be identified and police have urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.

The death came just hours after another male pedestrian was struck and killed in Lang Lang on the South Gippsland Highway.

The man was believed to be walking along the highway about 10:30pm on Friday when he was hit by a black Ford Mondeo. The 22-year-old driver of the car stopped at the scene, near the intersection of Caldermeade Road, and is assisting police with their investigation.

The deaths brought the year's road toll to 207. At the same time last year, 247 people had died on Victoria's roads.

Police are also appealing for witnesses following a crash in Endeavour Hills on Friday afternoon.

Investigators have been told a red Honda Civic was travelling east on Heatherton Road when it lost control and hit a pole near the Monash Freeway on-ramp about 3.15pm.

It is believed the Honda Civic stopped for a short time before it continued driving on to the Monash Freeway east bound.

The vehicle pulled over a short time later on the Monash Freeway at Narre Warren and a 34 year-old and a 37 year-old man, both from Pakenham, got out of the car and were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The exact circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be determined and police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who may have dash cam footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
