PATNA: University and college teachers are likely to get revised UGC pay scales soon. It will be implemented with effect from January, 2016.
A three-member committee, constituted by the government, to suggest ways for implementation of the revised UGC scales held several rounds of discussions with the beneficiaries and gathered views of teachers’ representatives from different universities. The final round was held here on Friday with a delegation of the office-bearers of the Patna University Teachers’ Association (Puta), led by vice-president Shefali Roy.
The delegation demanded that the full pay package, as recommended by the UGC, must be given to the teachers of state universities without any further delay and arrears of revised pay with effect from June, 2016 should be paid in one instalment. The delegation also sought formulation of a healthcare policy for teachers and their dependants, provision of medical leave up to 240 days and children’s education allowance at par with central government staff. It also demanded provision of leave travel concession for teachers and their dependants. Other members of the delegation were M P Trivedi, D P Kamal, M S Mangalik and S B Rai.
The committee has already discussed various aspects of implementation of the revised pay scales with the teachers of other universities in the state. It is expected to submit its final report on implementation of the revised scales shortly to the state government.
The chief minister has announced that college and university teachers will get the revised UGC scales by the end of the current fiscal. They have already been paid to the teachers of all central universities and most state universities in the country. The central government has reportedly sanctioned its share of the additional financial burden on implementation of revised pay.
