Mother of the Dalit teen girl from Agra cannot stop crying and questioning -what did her 15-year-old girl do to see such a fate to be set ablaze. Crying, she sits in the car to follow the ambulance carrying her daughter's body back to their village in Agra.

The tenth-grade teen girl was set ablaze by unidentified men on Monday, by throwing petrol on her, while she was returning from her school.

The girl, after suffering 55 per cent burns, most of which were on her face and chest, was rushed to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi but died later on Wednesday night at 2:20 am.

"Even at this age, she used to take care of all of us and study as well. We had no enmity with anyone. My husband works at a shoe factory and has never gotten into an argument. I cannot think of a reason for a crime like this.

Nothing like this has ever occurred on that road before," said Sunita Kumari (name changed), mother of the teen girl.

"Had we been Rajputs, there would have been street protests, rages, and quick action, but till now there has been no arrest," she added.

As per the family members, the whole incident was to start a tension in the area. Members of the Bahujan Samaj Party and Bhim Army travelled to the village with Sunita.

In relation to the event, former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav tweeted, "The two incidents in the state, where misdemeanour happened with a student and a teen girl was set ablaze shows how well the perpetrators in our state are elevated. There may be two reasons that either the antisocial elements are not afraid of the government or they have the protection of the Government."

The girl was initially admitted to the SN Medical College hospital in Agra, but was later referred to the Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi, police said.
