Bishop Stang played intense man-to-man defense in shutting down Apponequet Regional 42-32 in girls' basketball on Thursday in Lakeville.

"They've been averaging 60 points per game," Stang coach Eric Le Vie said. "So to hold a very good team to 32 points, it feels good."

Rylie Carreau scored a team-high 15 points for the Spartans (5-1). Catherine Yeargin scored nine while Abby Fernandes and Lily Shields had seven each.

Stang led 19-13 at halftime.

Old Rochester Regional 56, Durfee 37: At Mattapoisett, Mackenzie Carreiro scored 14 points for the Hilltoppers (1-4) in this loss.

Durfee was outscored 11-2 in the third quarter to fall behind 34-22.
