Even before the furore over a married woman Divya Sri being pushed off the Kondaveedu Express by an unknown person and robbed of jewellery died down, it has now emerged that another married woman Sirisha, also travelling by the same train in the same coach, was targeted in a similar manner at Zangalapalli.
The train had made an unscheduled stop there for lack of signal and the culprits took advantage of that. Sirisha, however, retaliated by throwing stones at the attacker. She was not injured and was rescued by the Government Railway Police. Her belongings were recovered from her berth by GRP sleuths at Dharmavaram station.
Sirisha was sent to Bengaluru by Basava Express half an hour later, but she preferred not to lodge a complaint with the police.
While the police were busy with the first incident, the second one took place half an hour later at the Gollapalli railway gate, close to Dharmavaram, GRP Circle Inspector T. Mohan Prasad told The Hindu.
While the nature of the crime was the same, the persons involved seem to be different raising suspicions about possible involvement of a gang. The police, however, do not rule out the possibility of the same person attacking a second time and have formed several teams to probe the incidents from all angles.
CCTV footage has so far not revealed any major clue.
Divya Sri’s health condition was stated to be stable, but is said to have suffered a miscarriage on account of the fall from the train.
