Pune: Water stock in Ujani dam drops to 45%

PUNE: Water stock in Ujani dam further depleted to 45%. The stock on Friday was recorded at 24.57 TMC. The stock had dropped to half way mark in first week of December. Ujani is the largest dam in Bhima sub basin with total storage capacity of over 100 TMC.
Water level in the dam had reached to maximum capacity during monsoon following significant discharge from upstream dams. However, for last four months, the dam has recorded constant drop in water levels following release for water crops.
The state irrigation department has recently stopped release of water from dam in to canal. The department has said that water will be released as per requirements.
The irrigation department’s latest data has pointed that besides Ujani water stock in eight dams in Bhima sub basin have dropped below 50% mark. There are 25 major dams located in Bhima sub basin. Dams left with less than 50% stock include Chaskakaman, Temghar, Pimpalgaon Joge, Manikdoh, Yedgaon, Wadaj, Ghod, Visapur and Nazare.
The state irrigation department has said that it has been monitoring water level in each dam and water is being released only as per requirements of crops and drinking purposes.
