After much publicity and wait, Aanand Rai’s Zero released today to a starkly divided response.

Though celebrities are gushing about the film, several critics don’t seem too impressed. News18’s Rohit Vats has rated the Shah Rukh Khan, Anushkha Sharma and Katrina Kaif-starrer 1/5.

Calling it an insipid tale of bizarre possibilities, and a film laden with flat jokes and ill-planned scenes, he writes, “Zero is a fantasy ride that ends up nowhere. From writing to direction and editing, everything has failed the project. If given a chance between Jab Harry Met Sejal and Zero, I would probably go for the former. Yes, it’s that uninspiring.

Indian Express too gave the film 1/5. In her review, Shubhra Gupta writes, “Zero fails spectacularly at giving us anything we can believe in, and we go from start to finish, with disbelief growing with each passing frame.”

Giving Zero 1.5 stars, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#OneWordReview… #Zero: FIASCO Rating: ½ Expected so much from this collaboration [SRK and director Aanand L Rai]… Sadly, the flawed writing - especially the second hour - takes the film downhill... EPIC DISAPPOINTMENT.”

However, despite all the criticism, Bollywood celebrities are eager to watch Khan as the vertically challenged Bauua Singh.

“Hearing fab stuff about #zero . Preview show reactions and critics alike! All the best @iamsrk and team!! This ones a winner ,” Emraan Hashmi tweeted.

Abhishek Bachchan also showed enthusiasm for the film. “Here's wishing all the best to @iamsrk, @aanandlrai, Anushka, Katrina and the entire team of #Zero all the very best for their release today. Can't wait to watch it,” he tweeted.

Retweeting the largely-positive review of HuffPost India’s Ankur Pathak, Ayushmann Khurana wrote, “This has made me happy. Dil se dua thi is baar! Can’t wait to see the film.”
