Fugitive Shetty’s aide held

MANGALURU: City police have arrested a close associate of underworld fugitive Vishwanatha Koraga Shetty and seized two pistols from him.
According to police, the arrested person has been identified as Hemanth Kumar, 47, a resident of Hoige Bazar. They have seized pistols, four live bullets, two knives, baseball bat and cellphones. The seized goods are valued at Rs 1.12 lakh.
His boss Shetty is hiding abroad and Hemanth was his close confidant, operating in Mangaluru. He was the prime accused in Aneesh Shetty murder that took place near Kadri Park in 2014. He was also booked for two attempts to murder.
Chain snatcher held
City police have arrested a youth in connection with two chainsnatching incidents reported in Bajpe PS limits, here on Thursday. They recovered two gold chains, a bike and Rs 3,700.
Police said the arrested, Thilak, 27, is resident of Padil, Kattalsar, Mooduperar. On December 11, when victim Pushpa of Yerame village was walking towards her home, Thilak came on bike and snatched her mangalasutra and fled away.
On December 17, in a similar attempt, he snatched the chain of Akshata near Kolambe. Cases under IPC 394 were registered at Bajpe PS. Police started investigating and arrested Thilak near Balawadi temple. During interrogation, he confessed to his crimes.
