FOXBORO – Bill Belichick commented on the Josh Gordon situation for the first time on Friday.
This comes after Thursday’s news that Gordon was being suspended indefinitely by the NFL for violating the terms of his conditional reinstatement under the Policy and Program for Substances Abuses. Belichick wouldn’t dive into the issues, but did start his Friday press conference off with a statement.
“On yesterday’s news, I spoke with Josh yesterday morning as I have several times since he’s been here. It’s obviously an unfortunate situation,” Belichick said. “I wish him the best as we all do on this team. He’s made a statement. The organization’s made a statement. The league’ made a statement. I’ve spoken of him at length over the last three months and so, I don’t really have anything to add to that. It’s a private matter. I hope that he’s able to deal with it successfully. Otherwise, we’re moving on to Buffalo.”
On losing Gordon in Week 16 and the difficultly that brings, Belichick said, “It is what it is.” How much will it change the offense?
“Look we have a lot of good players. A lot of people that have contributed and performed well for us,” Belichick said. “I have a lot of confidence in them and the whole team.”
Did Gordon impress Belichick during his time in New England?
“We’re going to focus on Buffalo,” Belichick said.. I’ve commented on that multiple times. Sure we have plenty of transcripts of that if you want to read up on ‘em.”
Belichick wouldn’t comment on whether or not he’d be willing to work with Gordon again.
“We’re going to get ready for Buffalo and play Buffalo on Sunday,” Belichick said.
