Proposed amendment in Railways Act: IG
Viraj Deshpande | TNN | Dec 22, 2018, 05:01 ISTNagpur: Inspector General of Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Bilaspur Zone RS Chouhan on Friday said that there is a need to strengthen RPF by giving them powers to take action against some of the crimes committed in railways. “We have sent proposals to amend some sections of Railway Act so that RPF personal can take action against culprits. The proposal is currently with the Law Ministry,” said the IG.
Some of the proposed amendments includes the power to file charges in cases of theft, molestation, vandalism and other crimes which regularly occurs in trains. Some amendments have also been proposed in IT Act by the RPF in order to control sale of illegal e-ticket.
Currently, the RPF do not have jurisdiction to take action against any accused under Indian Penal Code (IPC) cases. Those cases are handled by Government Railway Police (GRP).
IG Chouhan also presented this year’s progress report of RPF’s Bilaspur Zone and Nagpur division. Chouhan was accompanied DSC Ashutosh Pandey. It was also announced that Nagpur zone will be receiving 10 body cameras and four sniffer dogs to increase security at the station and trains.
This year SECR RPF has addressed around 10,665 complaints this year along with seizure of ganja worth Rs7.50 lakhs.
