Students on strike for the past 11 days call off their stir

Tata Institute of Social Sciences assured its striking students that scrapped Bachelor of Arts (BA) courses in its Hyderabad campus will be continued in the academic year 2020-21. Following the announcement which was communicated by email, TISS students who were on strike for the past 11 days called off their stir.

Nine students of the institute were also on hunger strike.

TISS had scrapped the courses for the academic year 2019-20. According to a note issued by Shalini Bharat, TISS-Hyderabad director, the reinstatement of the course will be done after “a thorough assessment of the administrative and infrastructural requirements for the same”.

Hostel facilities

The institute promised to “achieve stability with respect to faculty, administrative support and physical infrastructure”.

TISS-Mumbai administration also agreed that students whose scholarships are stalled need not pay their fee till the scholarship amount is paid. The administration has also agreed to continue with the existing private hostel facilities which are provided for the students. However, permanent hostel facilities will be made available only after securing and developing a permanent campus for TISS, the administration clarified. The institute’s administration has formed a nine member empowered committee to look into the grievances of TISS-Hyderabad students.
