Protests mar Ajmer Lit-fest ; protesters burn Naseeruddin Shah’s effigy

Ajmer, The inaugural ceremony of the Ajmer Literature Festival here on Friday was marred by demonstration with protesters tried to disrupt the first session and burn the effigy of film actor Naseeruddin Shah for his controversial statements.

The Bollywood actor was to attend the inaugural session at the festival in the Indoor Stadium here this afternoon.

However, protesters reportedly belonging to BJP Yuva Morcha reached the venue and tried to disrupt the proceeding, they raised slogans against the actor and also burnt his effigy.

Shah’s reported comments in context of Bullandshahr mob violence has raked up a controversy.

He had reportedly said “….In some areas killing of a cow receives more importance than lynching of a police officer…”.

In another utterance the actor reportedly said” …I am anxious about my children… because they don’t have any religion….,”.

Dismissing the protest and opposition, Shah held,’ I, have not uttered any thing against my nation..,..as a citizen(Bharatwasi) of India, I, do also have right to express myself”.
