Winter solstice: Google celebrates winter solstice 2018 with a doodle

The winter solstice is an astronomical phenomenon marking the shortest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. For 2018, the winter solstice falls on December 21. Winter solstice occurs when the Earth's North Pole is tilted away from the Sun to the maximum. For those living in the Southern Hemisphere, this day is the longest day of the year. This year the winter solstice is extra special as it will be followed by a full moon the next day, called the Cold Moon.
