The CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Friday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government and asked if every Indian being treated like a criminal after a report said that all computers are now under the government watch.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued an order to intercept, monitor any information that is stored in any computer.

The Intelligence Bureau, Enforcement Directorate, Central Board of Direct Taxes,  National Investigation Agency are among the 10 Central agencies who have been authorised to keep a watch on computers.

Failing to provide and technical assistance to the agency will invite seven-year imprisonment and fine.

Reacting to the report, Yechury questioned if every Indian is being treated like a criminal?

"This order by a govt wanting to snoop on every citizen is unconstitutional and in breach of the telephone tapping guidelines, the Privacy Judgement and the Aadhaar judgement," he tweeted.

However, Omar Abdullah said that he feel safer already.
