A man has suffered "life-changing" injuries in a serious crash that shut the A55 for more than six hours.

Emergency crews were called to the one-vehicle collision on the eastbound carriageway near Chester at 12.20am today.

A 31-year-old man, from Wales, was taken to Aintree Hospital with what have been described as "life-changing injuries", reports Cheshire Live.

The eastbound carriageway was closed for several hours between the A51 and M53/A56 while investigation work took place.

Diversions were put in place in order to ease early morning traffic.

The road re-opened just after 6.25am.
