Krishna District Superintendent of Police Sarvasresth Tripathy on Wednesday said the State government has sanctioned 30 new body-worn cameras in a move to strengthen communication and investigative mechanisms.
As many as 50 body-worn cameras were earlier issued for Krishna district. The camera runs on a Linux operating system with a storage capacity of 32 GB to 128 GB, enabling the operator to capture photos, videos and voice recording.
“The device is connected to the command control system through a SIM card. Live video footage can directly be accessed by the control system. This feature helps us monitor the situation on the ground in the need of the hour,” said Mr. Tripathy.
Personnel associated with the communications wing of the Krishna district police were trained to operate the body-worn cameras on Wednesday. The cameras will mostly be used to monitor major protests and events.
Data collected from the cameras will be stored for future use should police need to get additional clues in their investigations.
Communications Inspector S.K. Prasad and Reserve Inspector Mr. Krishnam Raju and other senior officials were present at the technical session on the use of the cameras here on Wednesday.
