Red Star Over China, written by American journalist Edgar Snow, is developed the mountainous city of Yan’an, which organized the then headquarters of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the center of the Communist revolution from 1935 to 1948.
More than 80 years ago, Edgar Snow ventured into the “no-go” zone and wrote the classic book — Red Star Over China, which gave a never heard and comprehensive, and at times brilliant, account of the Chinese revolution in the 1930s.
At present, Yan’an is home to over 350 sites related to the revolution, which have lured an increasing number of people keen on the revolutionary history of China. These sites fall into the group of “Red tourism” that shows visits to sites with a revolutionary legacy and has gained immense popularity in China.
Statistics from the tourism development committee of the city showed that Yan’an welcomed a total of 50.59 million tourists in last year, a year-on-year increase of 25.68 percent, with the tourism revenue totaling 29.87 billion yuan (about 4.33 billion U.S. dollars).
Over tourists including Marxists worldwide come to Yan’an, looking for ways to understand the CPC and how it ultimately succeeded there.
More than 20 foreign delegations visited Yan’an in 2017, whereas, in the first 10 months this year, it has received 30 overseas delegations, according to the foreign affairs office of Yan’an.
“The CPC has never ignored the cultivation of its cadres, and that is why the CPC can keep growing,” He Hailun said.
