Aussie world T20 win driving Sydney Thunder's Nicola Carey
Inspired by being part of Australia's Twenty20 World Cup winning squad, Sydney Thunder bowler Nicola Carey now wants to get some performances on the board to force her way into future Australian sides.
Thunder sit second on the Women's Big Bash ladder, trailing the Sydney Sixers by net run rate alone.
They're looking for a win over the bottom-placed Hobart Hurricanes at Manuka Oval on Friday.
Carey was part of the Australian squad that came home with the T20 world title last month, but didn't get a game - although she's played one Twenty20 and six one-day internationals for her country.
"I went away with the girls, didn't get much opportunity, obviously the team went really well," she said.
"I went away, learnt a few things and it's really nice to get back and actually play some games and we've got a good consistent lot of games over the next month or so.
"I've got to get some performances on the board to potentially make other teams of the future. I'll be looking to put my best foot forward in the rest of the season."
While the Thunder have had a flying start to the season, Carey said it was important they keep their foot on the accelerator.
A big win over the Hurricanes could see them wrestle top spot away from their cross-town rivals.
She was expecting to have a tough time with the ball on a Manuka pitch known for being batter friendly.
"We're off to a really good start, but it's really important to keep that momentum going particularly through this middle patch and then hopefully win most of our games leading into hopefully finals," Carey said.
While the difference on the ladder might indicate a one-sided affair, given the Hurricanes have only had one win, she was wary of them because they've been in a lot of close games.
Their one was dominant, while their six losses have gone down to the wire.
It all pointed to the Hobart side being involved in another close encounter.
"They probably haven't had the success they would've liked, but they've been in some really good matches, really close matches with good opposition as well," Carey said.
"They're there or there abouts so we're expecting to come out and it to be another close game."
