Alamo Man Concerned about Manhole Outside his Home

A manhole cover just doesn't...fit right... some people worry.... someone could fall in.

Channel 5's...christian von preysing...is on your side with the solution.

The man who lives in front of the problem manhole says it's a matter of time before someone gets hurt.

Watching the road from his harley davidson... clemente vela has the same worry today he says he's had for an entire year."somebody's going to fall into it."

There's no sidewalk on this side of duranta avenue... school kids and pedestrians walk up and down this road.

Vela says this manhole has him concerned... "i was really concerned about these kids walking across and one of them falling inside the manhole."it doesn't look dangerous until you start moving it around.

Vela grabbed a crowbar to show what's going on.

How it can be moved around rather easily.

"it doesn't fit."

And how one way or another if you step on it, the manhold cover will give in to your foot, and you could fall into the hole... which goes deep enough to cause an injury.

"the manhole cover is too small for the ring.

For the actual manhole.

So you step on one side of the manhole, it'll just slip."

Vela says he asked last year for a fix... he says the city came by and laid concrete around the rim of the cover... but that wore away about a year ago... "that didn't last very long."

We contacted alamo city manager luciano ozuna about the problem... within about an hour of contacting to the city... a crew came out to work on the problem manhole.

Now a new cover is in place, that won't slip and cause an injury.

Problem solved.... the alamo city manager says if you have a problem with your streets or sewage... you should contact the public works department... or his office.

In many other valley cities you can contact the public works office as well... in the channel 5 news studio, christian von preysing, channel 5 news at
