Winter session of assembly may begin on January 28

PANAJI: The winter session of the state legislative assembly is likely to be convened on January 28, 2019. The particular session, which will be the first session of the next year, will open with the customary address of the Governor.

This session is expected to be very short session of the state legislative assembly and could be held for only two to three days.

Speaker of the state legislative assembly Pramod Sawant on Wednesday informed that the House needs to be convened before February 2, 2019, that is within six months from the date the previous assembly session had been adjourned sine die.

“This means the forthcoming session of the state legislative assembly should be tentatively held by the last week of January 2019,” he added.

The previous monsoon session of the House had ended on August 3, earlier this year.

The Speaker said the Governor needs to convene the assembly session, 30 days in advance.

“The duration of the session however would be decided by the business advisory committee of the House,” he noted.

Replying to a question, the Speaker said that if the Chief Minister is unable to attend the assembly session, and has to hand over his charge to any of his cabinet colleague, then the related decision needs to be taken by the government.
