High Court judges to sit in Dharwad, Kalaburagi Benches during vacation

more-in

For the first since their inception, the two Benches of the Karnataka High Court at Dharwad and Kalaburagi will have sitting during vacation as the Chief Justice Dinesh Maheshwari has notified vacation judges for these two permanent benches to enable sitting during ensuing winter vacation to the High Court.

Though the Benches at Dharwad and Kalaburgai were established as Circuit Benches during July 2008, and they were made permanent Benches in August 2014, the litigant public and advocates had to travel to the Principal Bench at Bengaluru all these years for their legal matters during summer, Dasara and winter vacations as the provision for sitting during vacation period was made only at the Principal Bench.

In notifications issued on December 17, the Chief Justice, in exercise of his power vested under Section 12 of the High Court of Karnataka Act, 1961, has nominated judges to sit at Dharwad and Kalaburagi Benches while declaring December 27, 2018 as the sitting day during the winter vacation period from December 22 to December 31, 2018.

Arrangements for receipt of petitions, appeals and other papers during vacation period have also been made by keeping the Registry of these permanent Benches open between 10.30 am and 12:30 pm on working days during vacation, and between 10.30 am and 3 pm on the vacation sitting day, said the notifications. However, Saturdays falling in the winter vacation period will be closed holidays.
