State govt approvesRenal transplantation approval for city hospital
tnn | Dec 20, 2018, 04:00 ISTSurat: The state government’s health department has given permission to city-based Metas Seventh Day hospital to perform renal transplantation.
The patients suffering from kidney failures are not required to travel to Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Nadiad or Mumbai for renal transplantation as the government has approved live renal transplantation in the city hospital.
Talking to TOI, vice-president of Metas hospital Dr Anil Kumar CH said, “The renal transplant unit is being set-up at the hospital and it will be functional soon. The unit will create the availability of organs to the patients in Surat and surrounding areas of South Gujarat.”
Nilesh Mandlewala of Donate Life NGO said, “Patients suffering from kidney failure have to travel long distance for transplant and the cost factor is very high. Now, since the transplantation facility is available in the city, people can get treatment at affordable rates.”
Mandlewala added, “The hospital will have to do live transplantations for a year, then it will get nod for cadaver transplants. For now, we have to send cadaver donors organs to either Mumbai or Ahmedabad for transplantation.”
