Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. issued a voluntary recall of fresh cauliflower products because they may be contaminated with Escherichia coli (E. coli) O157:H7 bacteria, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Included in the recall are Cauliflower Rice, Veggie Cauliflower Rice Blend and Stir-Fry Mix with Cauliflower, which were sold in Wegman's produce department between Dec. 7 and 18.

If ingested, the bacteria can cause diarrhea and bloody stools. Most healthy adults can recover completely within a week of infected, according to the FDA. However, some people can develop a form of kidney failure called hemolytic uremic syndrome, which is most likely to occur in young children and the elderly. The condition can lead to serious kidney damage and even death, the FDA said in a press release.
