Safety levels and preparedness to mitigate emergencies should be the key focus of the State’s factories department, said senior officers at the inaugural ceremony of a two-day workshop on ‘safe handling of petroleum and natural gas and risk mitigation in factories’ here on Tuesday.

The workshop was organised by department of factories, Telangana, in collaboration with National Safety Council, Telangana chapter, and petroleum and natural gas public sector undertaking of IOCL, BPCL, HPCL and GAIL.

Speaking at the inaugural session, Shashank Goel, principal secretary of Labour, Employment, Training and Factories department, said, “The factory managements can concentrate and utilise the opportunity for improvement of their systems, design of equipment, method of works, training of employees in safety, preparedness to mitigate the emergencies and safe work culture.”

He added that in view of the liberalised policies of the government, the factories managements and employees working in all the factories must have the self regulation towards safety. Addressing the gathering, P.M. Chandra Mohan, director of Factories, said, safety levels of performance should be best in the country. “To achieve this goal, necessary training support would be given from the Department of Factories, Telangana, and National Safety Council, Telangana Chapter,” he said.

Around 100 delegates from the public sector as well as private factories are attending the event.
