Delhi: 'Sorry gang' targets four in 48 hours

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police have nabbed four persons from Paharganj area in New Delhi in connections with incidents related to pickpocketing and mobile thefts. All of the arrested persons are minors and belong to 'Sorry gang', mostly active in crowded market areas of the national capital.


According to police, this gang targets mostly tourists and businessmen who come to city from other parts of the country. The gang tries to come close to the victim on the pretext of apologising or saying sorry after deliberately colliding with the person on the target.


This gang is mostly active in market places like Karol Bagh, Paharganj, Chandni Chowk, Sadar Bazar, Kamala Nagar and Dariyaganj. | Read this in Hindi


The gang was busted after a person from Dhabad in Jharkhand - Durga Kumar- managed to nab a minor boy after he stole his mobile phone. According to Kumar, the accused came close to him on the pretext of seeking apology after a collision between them near a restaurant in Paharganj. The boy stole Durga's mobile phone while hugging him. Soon after the youth left the spot, Durga realised his mobile phone was missing. Without wasting a moment, Durga chased the youth and nabbed him. The remaining three other gang members were also nabbed by the police later.


While investigating the case, the police later came to know that the gang had committed three other crime with similar modus operandi in last 48 hours. Their victims included a visitor from Kerala, a businessman from Punjab and a person from Tamil Nadu.
