Chronicle Reporter, Bhopal, With the demolition of the Kolar pipeline by PWD the construction of Subhash Nagar railway overbridge (ROB) has resumed. The pipeline was a major obstacle in construction of bridge and the work on ROB on Maida Mill side was stuck for last one year.
Local residents had been demanding Subhash Nagar ROB for several years. The ROB will directly benefit seven lakh residents of the surrounding areas. Problem of traffic jam at Subhash Nagar, Rachna Nagar underbridge and Ashoka Gardens will be resolved. On the other hand, commuters passing through Bhopal Station, Nishatpura, Govindpura, Piplani, Jinsi, MP Nagar, Rachna Nagar and Security Road will get the relief.
Now the work on construction of the ROB’s slope has started. Construction is almost complete on Asoka Gardens side. The authorities have given green signal for installation of two railway spans and this work will be done in December. Officials claim that finishing work will start after completing the construction within two months.
PWD officials said that the construction of the bridge has been done in such a way that the electricity or other wires can be laid underground below the bridge. There will be a system for rainwater drainage at Ashoka Gardens and MP Nagar side. The ROB has a 1.5-meter wide footpath.
Earlier the work had to be stopped on account of Kolar pipeline. The PWD had written several letters to the municipal corporation to remove the pipeline. Officials raised the problem during the visit of local public representatives. But the pipeline was the only means of water supply to a large population and so there was no consensus on its removal.
But the problem was solved when a new pipeline was laid recently. BMC officials said there is no need to remove the old decrepit cement pipeline as it can be broken during construction. Officials said that 85 per cent of PWD’s share of work has been completed. Railways has to finish the remaining work, including installation of two spans of 64 meters each, at a cost of Rs 12 crore.
