AGRA: A 40-year-old woman suffered a fatal fall from the terrace of her house in Mathura on Tuesday after a troop of monkeys attacked her.
The victim was identified as Radha Goswami from Mathura.
Sources said that Goswami had gone to her terrace for some work on Tuesday when the monkeys started chasing her. While she was trying to escape, she slipped and sustained grievous injuries. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she succumbed later.
Goswami is the fifth fatality due to simian attacks in Braj region since November.
Talking to TOI, Radha’s son Bharat said, “The monkeys were continuously knocking on the terrace door. That’s why my mother went there to shoo them away. However, she was attacked by the troop.”
Saurabh Soni, a neighbour of the victim, said, “Goswami, who used to make garlands, had gone to the terrace around 6 pm on Tuesday when she was attacked by the monkeys.”
Monkey menace is rampant in the Braj region with even tourists being attacked by simians. On December 2, a 16-year-old boy, Naman Jain, died after he jumped from the terrace to save himself from a troop of aggressive monkeys in Kasganj. In November, an angry monkey snatched a 12-day-old baby from his mother’s lap and killed him in Runakta area of Agra. Similarly, a 59-year-old woman was injured after being attacked by monkeys in Kagarol town of Agra district. She died the next day.
