19-year-old commits suicide after losing new mobile phone

Surat: A 19-year-old youth ended life by hanging self at his residence in Pandesara on Tuesday after he lost his newly purchased mobile phone. The deceased feared that his parents would scold him. The deceased was identified as Pramod Rathod, of Karmayogi Society.

Police said that none of the family members were present at home when he committed suicide. They added that Pramod did not leave a suicide note. However, Pramod’s family members informed the police that he was upset after his newly purchased mobile phone got misplaced.


His parents told police that Pramod had purchased a mobile phone worth around Rs 20,000 recently from his own earnings. He worked as a driver and earned enough support the family and meet his expenditures. Within few days of purchasing the mobile phone, Pramod lost the phone, said police.


“He feared that he will get a scolding from his parents and out of that fear it is suspected that he committed suicide,” said a police official of Pandesara police station.


Meanwhile, police are also exploring if Pramod had some other issue in relationship or profession. Pramod’s father is a labour in textile weaving unit.
