KOLKATA: Jadavpur University has opened the application for entrance examination to take admissions in Ph.D engineering courses to second year M.Tech and M.E students which was till now restricted to only postgraduate degree holders. The decision was taken by the faculty council on Tuesday. It has now been decided that applicants pursuing the PG degrees will be allowed to apply and appear in doctoral entrance examination.
“However, their registration will be put on hold until they submit their original PG marksheet. This way they will no longer have to wait for one year after completing their masters’ degree program to enroll for Ph.D,” said a source in the faculty council.
He added, “their registration will be put on hold until the next advertisement for doctoral program which is almost after six months.”
The decision will immensely benefit students who are interested to pursue the Ph.D program and lacked choice, finally opting for a job after failing to wait for a year. “The number of doctoral candidates will also see an increase and we will have larger applicants,” pointed out a source.
