Mangaluru: NMP gets longest cruise vessel of current season in Celebrity Constellation

MANGALURU: The New Mangalore Port received the seventh cruise vessel of the current cruise season in the form of Celebrity Constellation, a Malta-flagged vessel on Saturday.
It was the fifth cruise vessel that the port received in as many days which started with arrival of Costa Neoriviera on December 11, Marella Discovery on December 12, Seabourn Ovation on December 13 and Nautica on December 14. Aida Vita, the first cruise vessel that arrived on November 15, also did so on November 26.
The Malta-flagged passenger vessel having overall length of 294 meters with air draft of 54.3 meters had started its voyage from Cochin Port in India with an overall complement of 2,100 passengers and 1,100 crew members.
Celebrity Constellation is the longest passenger vessel of the current season to have called on the port, a press communiqué from New Mangalore Port Trust traffic manager YR Belagal on Wednesday stated.
MT Krishna Babu, chairman, NMPT boarded Celebrity Constellation along with other senior port officers as a courtesy and met the captain of the vessel to understand their experience with the port. He emphasized the initiatives taken by the port to boost cruise tourism. On completion of ongoing project of upgrading existing terminal to state-of-the-art cruise terminal, NMP will be one of the most sought tourist destination by cruise lines.
The continuous efforts of port officials and improvements at port are yielding results with increasing number of cruise vessels and passengers in every season, Belagal stated. NMP had handled 24,258 passengers and 22 cruise vessels during the last cruise season. In the current cruise season, 32 cruise vessels are scheduled to arrive in the port. The season will conclude with the last vessel scheduled to arrive on May 7, 2019.
