The genie is out of the lamp! First look at Will Smith in new Aladdin movie

Cape Town – Will Smith’s genie in the live-action remake of Aladdin has finally been revealed. 

Will along with Naomi Scott who plays Princess Jasmine and Mena Massoud who plays Aladdin are the cover stars of Entertainment Weekly’s, First Look Issue.

The film directed by Guy Ritchie is based on the 1992 animation classic.  

In October Disney teased a first look of the upcoming movie. The clip is very reminiscent of the start of the animation film. (Read more here)

Speaking about taking on the role of the genie - once played by Robin Williams - Will says he felt confident that he could deliver something that was a homage to the late comedian but in a musically different way. 

“Just the flavour of the character would be different enough and unique enough that it would be in a different lane, versus trying to compete,” Will tells Entertainment Weekly.
