AGRA: A documentary on Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student, Najeeb Ahmed, who went missing from the hostel of the University on 15 October, 2016, following a scuffle with some other students allegedly affiliated to the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), was screened in AMU on Wednesday evening. The film claims that lynchings and forced disappearances under Modi regime had risen tenfolds.
The 90-min-documentary, which shows the journey of Najeeb’s mother, after her son’s disappearance, protest by the students across the nation and views of Najeeb’s friends and relatives, was released in presence of his mother, Fatima Nafees.
The movie starts with the message- “In 2014 the ‘Modi Wave’ defeated the INC in the general parliamentary elections in India, by a large margin. The result of the election was attributed largely, to anti-incumbency and the BJP’s development agenda. While people still await the promised ‘Acche Din’, the lynchings and forced disappearances has risen tenfold with 97% of 60 incidents between 2010 and 2017, having been reported after Modi took office”.
Najeeb’s mother said in the documentary that her fight will continue till she gets justice. However, CBI has already filed a closure report in Najeeb’s missing case this year.
Talking to media, Nuruluda from Azamgarh, who was also present there said, “We will form a team of all students from across the nation and make this an issue in 2019 Lok Sabha elections”. He added that this movement will continue till Najeeb comes back.
