GUWAHATI: Government railway police (GRP) sleuths have seized around 50 kg ganja in a series of operations over the last week. On Tuesday, two persons from Bihar were nabbed here while they were allegedly trying to smuggle around 10 kg of the contraband from Dimapur to Kanpur via the Rajdhani Express.
GRP identified the duo as Sudhanshu Kumar from Patna and Raju Ansari from Buxar. Both of them have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) Act.
Earlier on Saturday, GRP sleuths nabbed one Pappu Singh from Bihar's Bhojpur for allegedly trying to smuggle around 25 kg ganja. He was carrying the drugs from Dimapur to Ara in Bihar. Prior to it, on December 13, one Roke Mondal was arrested on charges of smuggling around 12 kg ganja to West Bengal's Murshidabad.
HK Das, Superintendent of Railway Police (SRP) here, said, "With railway connectivity between the northeastern states growing over the years, the drug smugglers have been seen trying to exploit the railway routes."
