NAGPUR: Additional Sessions judge AS Kazi on Tuesday acquitted Santosh Ambekar in Ravindra Gawande alias Balya murder case due to lack of evidences against him. In the past, court had already acquitted 10 others in the case last year.

Gawande, an arch rival of Ambekar, was murdered in January in 2017 at Sant Tukaram Nagar. The case was chargesheeted in March last year. In December last year, the court had acquitted rest of the gang which had eliminated Gawande citing glaring loopholes in the investigation by Kalamna police.

The trial against Ambekar was pending as he was yet to be arrested. Amberkar had surrendered before the court earlier this year following which the trial resumed.

Ambekar, represented by senior defence counsel RK Tiwari, argued against the prosecution theory implicating the former gangster. Tiwari claimed that there was no evidence against Ambekar as the case was built upon the theory of baseless conspiracy which cannot be proved.
