Delhi is Patel's third IPL team as he had earlier played for Mumbai Indians (2013) and KXIP (2014-2018).
Patel's price was equal to Carlos Brathwaite who was also bought for INR 5 crore by Kolkata Knight Riders.
Around 351 cricketers, including 228 Indians are expected to go under the hammer on Tuesday in Jaipur. There was a total of around 1,003 players initially registered for the auction, but the final list was released with a figure of 351, including the last-minute entry of five players. This will include the 119 capped, 229 uncapped and two associate nation players available for auctions.
