MUMBAI: Raigad district administration on Tuesday demolished four illegal structures near Alibaug for violation of the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms.
The CRZ notification of the Environment Protection Act prohibits constructions within 500 metres of the high tide line.
"We demolished four such structures on Tuesday. We had issued notices to owners of 58 properties for disregarding the CRZ norms. We have now started the demolition drive," district collector Dr Vijay Suryawanshi said.
The demolition drive would continue for the next few days, he said.
Besides these 58 properties, over 150 bungalows have been red-flagged over alleged CRZ violations. Their owners include corporate honchos.
