AHMEDABAD: A 22-year-old woman filed a complaint with Vejalpur police on Monday stating that she was tortured by her husband and father-in-law as she gave birth to a girl child which was “unwanted by her husband”, said police officials on Tuesday.
The complainant, who stays in Juhapura area of the city, stated that she had married three years ago according to social customs. After around a year of their marriage, the woman delivered her first child — a girl. After this, the behaviour of her husband and father-in-law changed towards her, she alleged in the complaint.
“My husband and father-in-law’s behaviour towards me was proper till I gave birth to my daughter two years ago. My husband was so frustrated with the birth of my daughter that he began consuming alcohol and beat me under its influence every now and then,” said the complainant.
She alleged that her father-in-law used to provoke her husband to beat her on frivolous issues. “My husband used to taunt me for giving birth to a daughter and he constantly told me to leave his home with my daughter,” said the complainant. “In July, once my husband came home in inebriated condition and picked a fight with me. He, along with my father-in-law thrashed me severely and pushed us outside his home. Since then, I have been living at my parental house,” she added.
After this, the woman, who was counselled by relatives, approached Vejalpur police and filed a complaint of domestic violence against her husband and father-in-law.
