The Indian Gooseberry tree is considered auspicious as according to Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu resides in it. This is also because amla has several medicinal properties. It is great for hair care and since it is herbal, it is completely safe to use repeatedly. You must apply it every alternate day for black hair. This method also assures that the new growth that comes is black too.
The method:

1. Take 100 grams of dried amla and put them in a deep pan made of iron specifically. Dig out the seeds, if present, from them.
2. Put the pan on high flame till it gets heated. Then reduce the flame and put in the dry amla pieces. Roast the amla on low flame. If you increase the flame, they will not get roasted from inside and the colour will not be effective.
3. Roast the amla until they turn black in colour. The process might take up to 20 to 30 minutes.
4. Now pour a glass of water and increase the flame.
5. Let it boil for another 7 to 8 minutes after lowering the flame.
6. Now keep it down till it cools. Keep the pan untouched overnight.
7. In the morning, when the amla pieces turn soft, you need to grind them into a paste. It should be a smooth paste and not a grainy one.

Things to remember:
1. Hair should be washed so that there is no oil or dirt left. Also, dry your hair completely and then apply the homemade amla paste.
2. Apply the paste and keep it for 2 hours minimum before washing your hair. Do not apply shampoo or any other hair care product after washing this paste off. Repeat the process every alternate day.
The result will be visible only after the fifth or sixth application, so do not panic and be patient. Just keep following the process stringently. Once all the grey hair are covered be assured that the colour will fade only after a long time and then the process can be repeated monthly or weekly. But since there is no harm in the application of this natural remedy, you must use it frequently.
