Triple Talaq bill discriminatory: AIMIM

Press Trust of India  |  Hyderabad

The AIMIM Tuesday alleged that the triple talaq bill introduced by the NDA government was discriminatory.

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) said he would be proposing amendments to it to "ensure that deserted spouses are protected."

"Continuing his longstanding tradition of terrible lawmaking, Modi has introduced a "revised" Triple Talaq Bill that is discriminatory & anti-women," the MP said in a tweet.

"Continuing my longstanding tradition of opposing unjust laws, I will be proposing amendments to ensure deserted spouses are protected," he said.

A fresh Bill to make the practice of tripe talaq among Muslims a penal offence was introduced in the Monday to replace an ordinance issued in September.

Under the proposed law, giving instant triple talaq will be illegal and void and will attract a jail term of three years for the husband.
