Man gets life imprisonment for sexually assaulting minor girl in Tirupur

TIRUPUR: A court here on Tuesday sentenced a 23-year-old man to life imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl.
On May 24, 2016, a 16-year-old girl was speaking to an 18-year-old boy, her relative, in a vacant land in Radha Nagar here. R Arunkumar of Kumarasamy Nagar near Pichampalayam and his two friends, who were minors, noticed the duo.
Later, Arunkumar and his friends beat the boy up and snatched his two-wheeler, gold jewellery and cellphone and chased him away. The trio then sexually assaulted the minor girl.
The Tirupur north all-woman police registered a case and arrested Arunkumar and the two minors.
The case was tried before a mahila court here. The case against the two minors were transferred to a juvenile court.
On Tuesday, mahila court judge J P Jayanthi sentenced Arunkumar to life imprisonment and imposed a fine Rs 30,000 on him.
