Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day after the Government ruled out any Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe on the Rafale deal.
This came following the Congress-led opposition demand for a JPC on the deal.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tomar maintained that the Government was willing for a discussion on the matter, but not inclined to set up a JPC on it.
Both government and opposition leaders duelled on the controversy surrounding the Rafale deal, prompting the Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to adjourn the lower house for the day.
On Monday, three members of the BJP moved in the Lok Sabha a notice of breach of privilege against Congress President Rahul Gandhi, alleging that he spoke “falsehood” and “misled the House” over the Rafale deal in his speech during a debate in July.
The Supreme Court had last week ruled that there is no reason to doubt the decision making process behind the Rafale jet deal. This apex court ruling is being seen as a big validation for the Modi-led government, which has been repeatedly accused by the Congress of corruption in the ₹59,000 crore deal for 36 jets.
Minutes before the Lok Sabha was adjourned, the government introduced the National Institute of Design (Amendment) Bill, 2018.
